Conduct

Be the reason someone came back.

FLIRT only works because two thousand people agree to treat each other like adults. This is the short version of what that means.

Applies to everyone

Attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, contractors, press and the FLIRT team. Across every venue, side event, meetup, after-party, livestream chat and DM sent because someone met at FLIRT.

What we expect

  • Assume good faith. Disagree hard, attack the argument, not the person.
  • Ask before you photograph, record, quote or tag someone.
  • Respect a "no". Once. Whether it's about a conversation, a photo, a pitch, a drink, or a dance.
  • Give people room to be new. Not everyone in the room has your context.
  • If you see someone being made small, step in, or find a crew member who will.

What we don't tolerate

  • Harassment of any kind, including on the basis of race, gender, sexuality, disability, religion, age, body, class or accent.
  • Unwanted sexual attention, contact or imagery.
  • Intimidation, stalking, or following someone in or out of a venue.
  • Deliberate misgendering or dead-naming.
  • Recording private conversations. Publishing anything said off-record.
  • Aggressive sales tactics, spamming, or hijacking sessions to pitch.

Consequences

The FLIRT team can, without refund and without debate, revoke a pass, remove someone from a venue, ban them from future editions, and where appropriate report incidents to the police or a speaker/sponsor's employer. We would rather lose a ticket holder than lose the room.

How to report

On the day: find any crew member (STAFF lanyards) or head to the info desk at any venue. You can ask to speak in private and you can bring someone with you.

Any time: email safe@flirtconference.com. Reports go to a small, named safeguarding team, not to a general inbox. We'll respond within 24 hours.
